Dick DeVos Names New CEO for Windquest Group

Dick DeVos said that Greg McNeilly will step in to take over as CEO and president of Windquest Group, the private investment firm founded by DeVos in 1988. Dick DeVos has held the top job since then. He will continue his role as chairman of the board.

Windquest has focused its investments primarily in the alternative energy sector. DeVos said he recognized the importance of finding new forms of energy decades ago. He called sustainability not just the right thing to do for the planet but an “economic imperative.”

When Dick DeVos launched Windquest Group in 1988, it had just one employee. Today it employs more than 1,000 people and spans 17 states. Under the leadership of DeVos, Windquest has not only expanded but has also developed remarkable new technologies that create clean, green energy generation.

Dick DeVos called McNeilly “a long-time colleague and proven leader” who has demonstrated “vision and determination.” He called McNeilly the “right person” to lead the future growth of the company.

Dick DeVos is perhaps best known as the former CEO and president of Amway, the giant multilevel marketing firm founded by his father in 1959. As heir to the Amway fortune, DeVos is among the richest men in the nation. Together with his wife, Betsy DeVos, Forbes places their worth at about $5 billion.

Industry observers note that Dick and Betsy DeVos are among the most prolific philanthropists in the nation. By some accounts, they have given away more than a third of their vast fortune. Betsy also hails from one of Michigan’s wealthiest families. She is the daughter of Edgar Prince, an auto-parts magnate.

In addition to energy products, the portfolio of Windquest includes wellness products, manufacturing and food/beverage holdings.

Dick DeVos is an avid aviator. He is noted for his influence in revitalizing the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.
